After a brutal run through the Powerlines track last week, we turned our attention to something completely different…the southern coastline of Western Australia. But don’t be fooled by the postcard views. What started as a laid-back beach mission quickly turned into a proper test for the 4WDs.
We kicked things off at Mutton Bird Beach, crystal-clear water, pure white sand, and panoramic views that scream paradise. But underneath that beauty was a trap waiting to test us, the first big test being a salt water crossing.
Then came Dingo Beach. Remote, raw, and seriously unforgiving. Here, the real chaos began. Some of the softest beach sections we’ve ever seen put every rig in the convoy on notice, and it wasn’t long before boggings started stacking up.
We had everything in the mix: brand-new electric off-road vehicles like the BYD Shark, hybrid rigs like the GWM Tank, and trusty diesels from Toyota and Volkswagen. But could the electrified newcomers hold their own in the harsh, salty, and unpredictable terrain?
With tyre pressures hitting rock bottom, TRED boards flying, and some tiring recoveries, this beach run was anything but a holiday.

Featuring:
BYD Shark
GWM Tank
Toyota Hilux & Prado
Volkswagen Amarok
… and a bunch of very different drivers!
