US President Donald Trump on Sunday announced that the United States Navy will begin blocking ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, significantly escalating tensions around the vital global oil route.

In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump said the US Navy would “begin the process of blockading” all vessels attempting to enter or leave the strait, calling it an immediate step to counter what he described as Iranian disruption.
