Enter Fiona’s home and it feels like a stage set. Layers everywhere. A space that holds memory, objects, time. Still, her acceptance of imperfection and even decay makes room for a real life.

Fiona de Lys is an interior colour consultant. Her Georgian cottage in North London turned out to be a moody home with an Italian soul. The colours move from monastery-soft at the back to deep Ligurian heat at the front; upstairs, feels like walking through a forest at dawn, and a little guest room glows like a jewel box. There’s Rosa Italia marble in the tiny freestanding kitchen, a woodland mural with a wren and her nest, and two mirrors in the garden that turn the outside into a stage.

We flew with Fiona to Liguria to hunt for trompe-l’œil, explore colour, and follow the threads back to Portofino — the place echoed in her London rooms.
