What is Folklorico?

In this video, I explain what if Folklorico. I briefly go over the impact Mexican history has on this genre, the types of dances, regions, vestuarios (costumes/attire), components, and why and how to respect this genre. I firmly stand on the fact that we need to understand Mexican history in order to answer this question and to have a better understanding of how everything was created and currently works.


I'm back after about a month of not posting. I'm so sorry about this, I have been adjusting to work, dancing again, and college during this pandemic. BUT do expect more videos!

Welcome to Folklorista's Corner!
The ultimate place for new folkloristas and new Folklorico directors.

I'm your host Carmen Flores.

My dancing career began at the age of 8, after 1 year of ballet I realized I had an interest in dance but not ballet. A few months later my mom took me to my very first Folklorico practice and it was love at first sight.

I've been apart of small, big, and professional groups throughout my active years dancing. After 6 years, I began teaching at my high school and created the very first Folklorico club at Marina High School. Where I still teach and help grow the group.

I created this place for that beginner dance who is in the same place I began having no clue what's going on and what to do. This is a place where hopefully I can serve you as an older sister figure and guide you on your Folklorico journey.
