This video is the first episode of my Breakfast Across China series — a journey through everyday mornings and regional breakfast cultures across China.

Chinese food is well known around the world, but most people are familiar only with lunch and dinner dishes. Breakfast, however, is rarely seen — even though it’s often the most local, diverse, and revealing meal of the day.

In this episode, Rong and I explore Minzu Street in Jinan — the city’s most famous breakfast street — to see what locals really eat in the morning. From freshly made pancakes and baked breads to hot, comforting street snacks, this is what an ordinary Shandong morning looks like.

There’s no script, no performance — just real food, real streets, and the rhythm of a local morning.
