The Ultimate Hanoi Breakfast Food Tour 🇻🇳🍜

Before we get started, we’re joined by two very special guests 👇
First up, Lylla – aka Ms. Yummyface – the brains behind @curiousaboutvietnam and without doubt the best person to explore Hanoi’s food scene with. And, of course, my sidekick Finley, who also happens to be Ms. Yummyface’s biggest fan!

Please support Ms. Yummyface by booking a wonderful Hanoi food tour or grabbing one of her amazing food guides here https://www.curiousaboutvietnam.com / https://www.instagram.com/curiousaboutvietnam/?hl=en and don't forget to use code FINLEY to get your free Hanoi black book, packed with local spots!

Hanoi does breakfast very differently and this food tour proves it from the very first bite.

We kicked things off with Cháo Sườn Sụn, pork ribs and cartilage porridge. This was so different from what I’m used to as he porridge is made with rich pork stock and rice flour rather than whole grains, giving it the most interesting, silky texture. Add tender ribs with a crunchy cartilage middle, crispy dough sticks and airy pork floss. Add plenty of pepper and chilli and it’s pure comfort food. Hanoi-style.

Next up, we headed for a true Hanoi classic , bún chả. Served with the crispiest crab spring rolls at Bún Chả Bình Minh - Nem Cua Bể – and honestly, this was probably the best bún chả I’ve ever had. Smoky grilled pork, perfectly balanced dipping sauce, fresh herbs, and those crisp nem cua bể packed with sweet crab… absolutely spot on.

We finished the morning with a bánh mì, followed by one of my favourite sweet snacks in Hanoi – chicken-fat fried bananas at Phở Gà Hàng Điếu (the phở shop closes at 2pm, then the bánh mì stall opens outside). Crispy on the outside, soft and sweet inside, and dangerously addictive. The perfect way to end an epic Hanoi breakfast food tour.
