The hangar smelled of jet fuel and hot metal. Voices bounced off steel walls, boots clattered across the concrete floor, and a dozen pilots in crisp flight suits leaned around the long briefing table. Sunlight cut through the glass panels above, catching on helmets and visors.

At the far end of the room, a woman stood alone—short brown hair, calm eyes, uniform pressed but faded at the edges. Her nameplate read *Staff Sergeant Lauren Reeves.* She carried a folder, not a helmet. That alone was enough to draw a few smirks.

“Did logistics send you to fetch coffee again?” one lieutenant called out, his grin met with laughter from the row behind him.

Lauren didn’t respond. She simply set the folder on the table, her movements precise, unbothered. The laughter continued, low and sure of itself, echoing through the hangar.

Only one person noticed the small inked pattern visible just beneath her sleeve—a dark wing, barely visible, curling toward her wrist.

She adjusted her cuff, hiding it again.

They thought she was a clerk. They thought wrong.
