Step into a world where it’s Christmas every day. In the heart of Rothenburg ob der Tauber lies Käthe Wohlfahrt’s Weihnachtsdorf — a magical Christmas Village filled with handcrafted ornaments, twinkling lights, and stories that span generations. In this video, we explore the origins of this world-famous shop, how it grew from a small family business into a global symbol of Christmas joy, and discover how many beloved Christmas traditions — from glass baubles to nutcrackers — began right here in Germany

In the heart of the medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, there’s a place where it’s Christmas every day.
Where the scent of pine and cinnamon fills the air — and thousands of ornaments sparkle under a golden glow.
This is Käthe Wohlfahrt’s *Weihnachtsdorf* — the Christmas Village — a world where time stands still, and the spirit of Christmas never fades.

The story began in the 1960s, when Wilhelm and Käthe Wohlfahrt started selling handcrafted Christmas ornaments and music boxes from their home.
What began as a small family business soon grew into something much larger — a celebration of German craftsmanship and tradition.
In 1977, they opened the *Weihnachtsdorf* in Rothenburg, turning an old Franconian house into a year-round Christmas wonderland.
Today, Käthe Wohlfahrt has expanded beyond Rothenburg — with stores in cities like Nuremberg, Heidelberg, and Berlin — and even across Europe and North America.
But Rothenburg remains the heart of it all — the original Christmas Village.

Many of the Christmas traditions we know today were born right here in Germany.
In the Erzgebirge mountains, miners crafted wooden angels, pyramids, and nutcrackers to bring light and joy during the long, dark winters.
In Lauscha, Thuringia, glassblowers invented the first glass ornaments in the 19th century — delicate treasures that soon adorned trees all around the world.
Even the Christmas tree itself — *der Weihnachtsbaum* — first became a household tradition in Germany before spreading across Europe and America.
Through these crafts, generations have shared their hopes, memories, and love — preserving the magic of Christmas in every handmade piece.

At Käthe Wohlfahrt’s Christmas Village, you don’t just buy decorations — you step into a story.
A story of family, tradition, and the timeless joy of Christmas.
Whether it’s December or July, the spirit of the season lives on — in every ornament, every song, and every heart that walks through these doors.

From Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Merry Christmas — all year long.
