Hello everyone, Emerald Fennell here.

I am so incredibly thrilled to share this personal passion project with you all. Today, on this day in 2026, I have finally finished a project that has been living in my head alongside the mist of the Yorkshire Dales: a high-quality, clear 2026 Stereo Remix of one of my all-time favorite tracks, "The Finest" by The S.O.S. Band, from their classic 1986 album Sands of Time.

I didn’t do this alone. I worked on this mix with the incomparable Charli XCX (who brought that signature Brat energy to our soundtrack) and my brilliant team at LuckyChap Entertainment. Even my wonderful cast—Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, and Alison Oliver—hopped into the studio to help us fine-tune the levels.

🎻 Why "The Finest" for Emily Brontë?
People might ask why the Director of "Wuthering Heights" (2026) is remixing an 80s R&B anthem. We did this as a tribute to the original talent of Mary Davis and the production of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, but also as a respectful nod to Emily Brontë. We truly believe Emily would have loved the smooth, obsessive, and sophisticated yearning of this song. It evokes the same "teenage girl reading the book for the first time" feeling I wanted for the film.

🎮 The "EarthBound" Inspiration
The core concept of this mix was inspired by Shigesato Itoi and his legendary work on the EarthBound (Mother 2) OST. Itoi-san famously used sampling—taking iconic, familiar sounds (like snippets of The Beatles or The Beach Boys)—to trigger deep, subconscious emotions in the player.

By using the iconic, recognizable intro of "The Finest," we wanted to trigger that same "video drug" effect. Whether you grew up hearing this on the radio in the 80s or discovered it a decade later, that sound is a piece of human history. We want that nostalgia to humanize our version of Catherine and Heathcliff in your eyes.

🗣️ TO THE CRITICS: ABBIE REE, MARINA MCBAIN & THE "BOOKTUBE" COMMUNITY
I know there has been a lot of "Movie Drama" lately. I’ve seen the video essays from ladies like Abbie Ree and Marina McBain, and others in the BookTube purist community who have been making videos bashing my direction and criticizing our 2026 adaptation.

To those of you who said:

"The film is a sign of the decline of society" (Abbie Ree)

"Heathcliff was never white" (Addressing the casting of Jacob Elordi)

"It's a self-insert fanfic that couldn't" (Bryony Claire)

"It's iPhone Face killing period dramas" (Marina McBain)

I want to surprise you. You might expect a "provocative" director to be out of touch with the classics, but my musical knowledge runs deep. As soon as you hear that legendary Jam & Lewis intro, I want you to feel the power of the original recording and realize that our film’s "smooth-brained sensuality" (as some have called it) is an intentional, artistic choice.

🎥 Visual Connections to the Mix
As you listen to this 2026 Stereo Mix, I want you to visualize specific scenes from our movie:

The VistaVision sweeps of the Yorkshire Dales shot by Linus Sandgren.

Margot Robbie in her sheer pearlescent dress, her veil billowing like a ghost over the moss.

Jacob Elordi’s Heathcliff, brooding against a "tequila-sunrise" sky.

The lacquered blood-red floors and the walls of hands in the Linton estate.

We used the original album art for this video to bridge the gap between the 1980s and the 1840s. It’s about the freedom and empowerment of being oneself, regardless of the "purist" accusations. Our movie is streaming NOW, and I hope this song helps get rid of the hate and reminds you that art is about feeling, not just fidelity to a text.
