This documentary features Master Park Sang-jin,
the holder of Gyeonggi Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 41 – Ceramic Master (Buncheong Ware),
and captures the full journey of traditional Korean pottery making.
In 1971, Master Park began his lifelong path into the world of clay and fire,
studying the fundamentals of ceramics under Master Ji Soon-taek at Goryeo Pottery.
He later trained for over 13 years at Dowon Kiln under Master Park Bu-won,
refining his Buncheong techniques and artistic philosophy.
In 1987, he established his own kiln, Gaecheonyo,
devoting nearly half a century to shaping clay and perfecting his craft.
His work continues the lineage of tradition while breaking free from its confines.
With a delicate balance of freedom and restraint,
he embodies his philosophy that “tradition is not mere repetition, but inheritance.”
Through the meeting of earth, fire, and human touch,
each piece of pottery is reborn as a work of art.
The film follows the intricate process of pottery making —
from preparing the clay and shaping it on the wheel,
to drying, glazing, and firing —
revealing the transformation of raw earth into a vessel of timeless beauty.
Every piece that emerges from his hands is more than an object;
it is a reflection of time, devotion, and the spirit of craftsmanship.
