This documentary tells the full story of the First Crusade, one of the most consequential conflicts of the medieval world. It begins with the call to arms issued by Pope Urban II at the Council of Clermont in 1095, when a movement began that would send thousands from across Europe on a long and dangerous journey to the Holy Land.

The crusading armies marched east through Anatolia and into the Levant, facing hardship, internal rivalries, and determined resistance along the way. The campaign brought them to major cities such as Nicaea and later to the long and brutal siege of Antioch before the final march toward Jerusalem in 1099. Figures such as Godfrey of Bouillon, Bohemond of Taranto, Raymond IV of Toulouse, and Tancred of Hauteville played central roles in shaping the outcome of the expedition.

The capture of Jerusalem did not bring the story to an end. In the years that followed, the crusaders established new Christian realms in the eastern Mediterranean, including the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the Principality of Antioch, the County of Edessa, and the County of Tripoli. These states became the foundation of a new political order in the region and would remain a major force in the history of the Crusades for generations.

Drawing on medieval chronicles and modern scholarship, this documentary explores the origins of the First Crusade, the battles that defined the campaign, and the rise of the Crusader States that followed.
