Takanoyama had trouble gaining weight during his career averaging 80-100 kg which became a problem when climbing the higher ranks of sumo. He usually gets overpowered by a bigger rikishi due to his light frame, but Takanoyama uses his speed and judo skills to outmanuever his opponents.
