Singaporean Hakka food taste test by our resident Hakka girl. What is Hakka? What is their food like? Celine is Hakka??

As we spend more time in Singapore, we realize there’s quite a large population of Hakka living here. Hakka is the fourth-largest Chinese dialect group in Singapore, after Hokkien, Teochew, and Cantonese (based on 2010 data). We go back to one of our favourite Hakka food spots - but this time, Celine’s put to the test to converse with them in Hakka.

Since we were in the area, we were told we HAD to try the laksa at Sungei Road Laksa. Unfortunately the long lines forced us to change plans to a Hakka treat then a kombucha spot we’ve been dying to try. If you’ve tried out the laksa before, let us know in the comments! Is it worth the wait?

Follow along our adventures of trying the food of different cultures and exploring how locals live in every country we visit.
