Rollo, a Viking chieftain of uncertain origins, was born around 860 AD and is known as the founder of Normandy. After a life of raiding, he negotiated the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte with King Charles the Simple of France in 911. In exchange for land, Rollo converted to Christianity, pledged loyalty to the king, and agreed to defend the region from other Vikings. He established a new law code and policies that brought order and prosperity to the territory. Rollo's legacy is significant, as his descendants, including William the Conqueror, went on to found a dynasty that shaped the history and royalty of England and other parts of Europe.
