The PET was one of three personal computers that appeared in 1977. For Commodore it was something that had to succeed as their existing businesses were dying. The gamble paid off in spectacular fashion, and they went on to dominate the 1980s with some excellent computers. That foundation was built with the PET, their first fully integrated home computer and a machine that went on to have a much longer life than you might realise.
