The quotes were eye-opening: Renewal by Andersen came in at $34,376 for their Fibrex frame (no vinyl option), while Pella’s quote was $21,261 for vinyl windows—still double the cost of the #1 value window on my list. In terms of warranties, both companies offer 20 years on glass, but Pella limits this to non-laminated glass. Pella also provides lifetime coverage on defects and parts, while Andersen only covers Fibrex for 20 years and parts for 10 years, though Andersen’s warranties transfer more cleanly to future homeowners. When it comes to energy ratings, neither Pella’s 250 series nor Andersen’s Acclaim replacement series meet the new Energy Star 7.0 standard unless upgraded to triple pane. Renewal by Andersen performs better on air infiltration and U-Factor, but both fall short in certain areas given their high price tags.

In the end, my husband and I chose Virtual View Windows and their Alside Mezzo model. With triple-pane glass, it met all Energy Star 7.0 requirements, qualified us for the $600 Energy Tax Credit, and still came in at half the price of Pella and one-third the price of Renewal by Andersen.
