New England Patriots news: Patriots linebacker Marte Mapu has been RELEASED, which means major changes are coming to New England. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has done his best to build a new culture within the Patriots organization, and Marte Mapu is the latest casualty from his roster build. Marte Mapu was a third round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Sacramento State, and was moved from linebacker to safety during the 2025 NFL regular season. Mike Vrabel and Patriots general manager Eliot Wolf now only have 15 players from before Vrabel took the head coaching position, building a new era in New England.
