Living in Rural Ireland: 10 Things Ive Learned After 3 Years

Thanks for watching! A few recurring observations have been made, so here's a quick response:

a) property tax - so low it didn't seem worth a mention in a video I was trying to keep under 20 minutes! In the UK, for example, a tiny 2-bed house could be over £2,000 (around €2,300) a year. Our property tax over here for a 4-bed, 2-bath house on 1 acre of land is exactly €104 (£90) a year.

b) population - in the Republic of Ireland it's less than 5.5 million people. That's an average 77 people per square kilometer. This is the root cause of many of my observations in this video. By comparison, the population of the UK as a whole is estimated at over 69 million as of early 2025. That's an average of 443 people per square kilometre, although in major towns and cities it's more like 4,000 to 6,000 people.

c) my mangling of the name "Connaught" - what can I say? I'm a daft Brit trying my best to get my tongue around new pronunciations! It'll never be as bad as my Vietnamese! 😆
