At dawn, Thuy and her child cut three banana bunches at a neighbor’s and ripen them the traditional way. After 24 hours, the fruit turns golden; she lashes them to a carrying pole, heads to market, and sells out two bunches quickly. Heading home in the rain but smiling, she uses the last bunch to make steamed banana cake with a glossy sauce—slice, sugar-marinate, mix batter, steam, then pour the golden sauce for a cozy mother-and-child treat
