Practices of comparing play an important role in situations of cultural contact, conquest, and colonization in different parts of the world, throughout all historical epochs, from Antiquity to Present.

The international conference "Contact – Conquest – Colonization. Practices of Comparing between Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, from Antiquity to the Present" (11-13 October 2018) was organized by Eleonora Rohland, Christina Brauner, Angelika Epple, Antje Flüchter, and Kirsten Kramer (subprojects A03, B01, B03).

The conference aimed to create a conversation between historical epochs as well as between different disciplines studying cultural contact, conquest, and colonization under the overarching theme of practices of comparing.

This talk is held by Julia Engelschalt, doctoral researcher at the SFB 1288 at Bielefeld University.
