Battle of Yorktown - Colonial National Historical Park

A visit to the Yorktown Battlefield at Colonial National Historical Park in Virginia ... where the decisive victory by a combined force of 17,000 American Continental Army troops led by General George Washington and French Army troops led by the Comte de Rochambeau over 9,000 British Army troops commanded by British Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis took place in the fall of 1781.

It was the last major land battle of the American Revolutionary War, as the surrender by Cornwallis, and the capture of both him and his British troops on October 19, 1781, prompted the British government to negotiate an end to the conflict, resulting in the Treaty of Paris of 1783.
