Lieutenant Chris Montgomery, an officer in the U.S. National Guard, has his transfer request approved, allowing him to stay stateside while his unit prepares for deployment to Iraq. But when one of his subordinates, Private Kowalski, attempts to go AWOL out of fear for his family, Chris faces a moral dilemma. Should he fulfill his duty and turn the soldier in, or help him escape service? Meanwhile, tensions in the unit rise as comrades learn about Kowalski, and the command begins to question Chris's own allegiance. Torn between personal beliefs and military oath, he must make a decision that will change his life forever.
