The work of VISTA volunteers is described, illustrated by the activities of a boy in an Atlanta ghetto and two girls on a Navajo reservation in Arizona. The volunteers are shown overcoming the problems of becoming accepted in the communities, helping the poor who are reluctant to change their ways, building community organizations with a sense of community spirit which can continue their work when their year as volunteers expires. Paul Newman narrates.
