Nearly 91 lakh voters have been removed from West Bengal’s electoral rolls after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process that began in November 2025.

The first phase saw 63.66 lakh names deleted, followed by scrutiny of over 60 lakh cases under adjudication. After verification, 27 lakh more names were removed, while 32 lakh were added back.

The final voter list is now frozen ahead of elections, sparking political debate. While one side calls it a clean-up of illegal entries, the other alleges targeted exclusion. With tribunals flooded and questions being raised, this has become one of the biggest election controversies in India right now.
