The true essence of the self is beyond physical and mental realms. Recognizing and transcending this illusion, by dispelling ignorance, can lead one towards enlightenment, freedom from worldly attachments, and realization of the eternal self.

### Key Insights:
1. **True Nature of the Self**: The *jiva*, or individual soul, is actually the *Atman*, a pure, unchanging consciousness.
2. **Influence of Ignorance (Avidya)**: Under the influence of *avidya* (ignorance), the *jiva* mistakenly identifies itself with the mind and body, thus forgetting its true nature.
3. **Worldly Experience as Illusion**: This misidentification leads the *jiva* to experience the world and get entangled in the cycles of joy, sorrow, and attachment associated with material life.

This aligns with the Upanishadic message of moving from ignorance to knowledge, ultimately achieving liberation (*moksha*).

What is a living being? A living being is a soul, it is free from vices but comes under the influence of ignorance. He separates himself from the understanding of mind and body and this is how he experiences this world.
