Bangkok’s BEST Hidden Street Food Tour 🔥

Today I’m taking you on the ultimate DIY street food tour in Old Town Bangkok, right in the heart of the old city Bangkok, and the best part? Every stop is within just a 5-minute walk along one canal.

This is proper local food. No tourist traps. Just three incredible spots you can easily follow yourself.

We start at Jack’s Chicken Rice, going straight in with a mixed boiled and grilled chicken rice. This is classic Thai khao man gai, with tender poached chicken, grilled chicken, fragrant rice cooked in chicken fat, a rich broth on the side, and a punchy fermented soybean chilli sauce that brings everything together. It’s easily one of the best in Bangkok.

Next stop is Pa Aew’s Hiso Curry Rice, where the crab is on another level. The size of the prawns and lump meat crab has to be seen to be believed.

We ordered pad pong kare, a rich yellow curry stir fry with crab, pu pad prik, a spicy crab stir fry with chillies, and goong gratiem, garlic fried prawns packed with flavour. Proper old-school Thai dishes done right.

Then we finish at Auntie Pien’s charcoal pan noodles, tucked away in a small alley by the canal. Here it’s all about wok hei, that smoky flavour from cooking over charcoal. We went for bamee kua moo daeng, stir fried egg noodles with slices of sweet BBQ pork, coated in a savoury sauce and slightly crispy from the pan.

If I had more room, I’d have gone for the kua gai too, which is wider rice noodles stir fried with chicken until slightly charred, and honestly, you should do the same.

If you’re heading to Wat Pho, Wat Saket, the Grand Palace or Khaosan Road and don’t want to eat tourist food, this route is perfect. It’s right in Old Town Bangkok but feels a world away from the usual tourist spots.

If you’re looking to explore Bangkok street food in Old Town or Old City Bangkok, this is one of the easiest and most rewarding food walks you can do.

This DIY street food tour is all within five minutes walking distance, set along a scenic canal in Old Town Bangkok, packed with authentic local favourites, and perfect for first-time visitors and serious food lovers.

This is the side of Bangkok most people miss.

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this YouTube channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!

If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!
