In March of 1622, a quarter of the Jamestown colony was wiped out in a single morning. Men were killed in their fields. Women murdered in their homes. Children cut down without warning. And yet almost no one is taught this story. Before Wounded Knee. Before the Indian Wars. Before Manifest Destiny hardened into policy, there was Jamestown.
For years, English settlers believed they had achieved peace with the surrounding Powhatan tribes. They traded together. Ate together. Lived side by side. What the English believed was coexistence was something very different to the people watching their land disappear.
This episode explores the Jamestown Massacre of 1622, what led to it, why it happened, and how it permanently shaped American frontier policy. It’s not a story of simple villains or heroes. It’s a story of fear, miscalculation, expansion, and a moment when trust collapsed forever.
