TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee Raises Concerns Over SIR Schedule and Voter List Review Process

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee commented on the ongoing debate over the Summary Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. He pointed out that while the 2002 SIR process took two years, the current Chief Election Officer has announced plans to complete the exercise in 12 states within two months. Banerjee also noted that all states facing elections, except Assam—which is governed by the BJP—are included in the current SIR exercise. He said, “If this voter list is faulty, then the Prime Minister, I, and others have also been elected using the same voter card. The 2002 Summary Intensive Revision (SIR) took two years, but now the Chief Election Officer in just two must announced to conduct the SIR in 12 states. You’ll notice that all the states going to polls, except Assam, are included. Among those, only Assam is ruled by the BJP.”
