Saddam Hussein was a name that evoked fear, power, and controversy across the Middle East. From a poor village near Tikrit to the presidency of Iraq, his journey was marked by war, repression, and ruthless ambition.

He led Iraq through rapid modernization, but it came at the cost of mass killings, the Iran-Iraq War, and the invasion of Kuwait.

After the 2003 US invasion, Saddam disappeared from public view. He was finally captured by American forces in December 2003, found hiding in a small underground bunker near Tikrit.
