Making a Pair of HEAVY DUTY V-Blocks | Shop Made Tools

We need a pair of V-blocks that are heavy duty and easy to setup so we’re going to make them! This has been a project on our list for a while because the standard cast iron V-blocks just aren’t handling the setup of larger and heavier jobs that we do on the milling machine. In this video we show the step-by-step process of turning high tensile steel plate into a pair of heavy duty parallel V-blocks. First, we need to do milling and face cutting to get our surfaces machined true. We then machine a slot and drill holes for key steel that will be used to align the v-blocks to the bed of the milling machine. We also drill and counterbore the holes that will be used to bolt the v-blocks onto the t-slots of the machine. These shop made V-blocks are not only heavy duty and solid but will save so much time in setups!
