India is launching a historic ₹65,400 crore (USD 7.44B) mission to design and produce fighter jet engines by 2035, marking a major leap in aerospace self-reliance. With plans to build 1,100 engines, India aims to power future aircraft including Tejas Mk2, AMCA, upgraded fighters, and unmanned combat jets. Led by GTRE chief SV Ramana Murthy, the initiative blends Indian R&D, private players, and global partnerships with GE, Safran and Rolls-Royce for a fifth-gen engine. This defence push will boost the IAF to 42 squadrons, create jobs, reduce imports, and position India as a global aerospace hub.
