Cherry Burl Transformation into a Natural Edge Hollow Form

Not every burl is easy… and this one was a true challenge. I started with a chunky cherry burl, full of massive cracks and deep checking, and set out to transform it into a hollow form with a natural edge. What could have been a disaster turned into one of the most rewarding pieces I’ve ever completed.

The process was labor-intensive, requiring extra care, problem-solving, and patience at every stage. But in the end, the natural edge, rich grain, and wild figure of the cherry burl came together in a stunning hollow form that showcases both the beauty and the difficulty of working with burl wood.
