ABOUT THE CHAP:

The Chap was founded in 1999 and is the longest-serving British magazine dedicated to the gentlemanly way of life, with its own quirky, satirical take on a style that has recently entered the mainstream. Simply put, The Chap is a journal for the modern gentleman with an eye for retro and vintage styles. Taking the best of 1920s, Roaring Twenties, 1930s, 1940s and 1950s menswear and wrapping it all up in a Victorian cloak of irony, wit and panache, this gentleman’s quarterly is inspired by such debonair icons as Terry-Thomas, David Niven, Peter O’Toole, Cary Grant, Tallulah Bankhead, Louise Brooks, Josephine Baker, Beau Brummell, Oscar Wilde, Sebastian Horsley, Sir Richard Burton, Peter Wyngarde, Patrick Macnee, Diana Rigg, Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory, plus fictional chap archetypes such as John Steed, Emma Peel, Jason King, James Bond, Adam Adamant, Sherlock Holmes, Peaky Blinders, The Persuaders, Withnail and I.

The Chap is the men’s magazine for the raffish, rakish, louche, decadent fellow who always wears a cravat, monocle, trilby, tweed three-piece suit, smoking a pipe and carrying an umbrella.

Relaunched as a quarterly in May 2017 with a larger format, CHAP is now seen as both a stalwart of old-fashioned values, and paradoxically also the pioneer of new trends in fashion. Its reportage covers everything from vintage festivals to new makers of tweed garments, giving a rounded view of how to live well in the modern age.
