Catherine O’Hara official cause of death has been confirmed, with TMZ, citing the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, reporting that the 71-year-old died of a pulmonary embolism, with rectal cancer as the underlying cause. The actress died on Jan. 30, with her reps telling E! News that she passed away “following a brief illness.” Prior to her death, the ‘Home Alone’ star, who shares sons Matthew Welch, 32, and Luke Welch, 28, with husband Bo Welch, was noticeably absent from the 2026 Golden Globes, where she was nominated for her supporting role alongside Seth Rogen in ‘The Studio.’ Catherine previously revealed that she had a rare, though typically not life-threatening, heart condition called cardiac inversus.
