Choosing the right clay is essential for a successful pottery project! Whether you’re hand-building, wheel throwing, or sculpting, different clay types offer unique benefits.

🔹 Hand-Building: Clays like earthenware and stoneware hold their shape well and resist cracking. Earthenware fires at lower temperatures, resulting in a matte finish that can be stained or glazed. Some clays include talc, which helps prevent warping in larger pieces.
🔹 Wheel Throwing: Elasticity is key! Stoneware is a great choice for beginners—smooth, strong, and easy to center. Advanced potters often prefer porcelain for its refined, high-fire translucency, but it requires skill due to its lower plasticity.
