Baghdad Isn’t What You Think | First Impressions of Iraq

In this video I explore Baghdad, Iraq for the first time and it completely changed the way I see this city. From the moment I arrived, I was met with hospitality, warmth, and some of the best street food I have ever tried. Baghdad might just be the most underrated Arab capital I have visited.

I start my journey on Al Rashid Street, one of the oldest and most historic streets in Baghdad. I walk through the city center, meet local Iraqis, and experience real hospitality. People were offering me food, drinks, and even refused to let me pay. It was nonstop generosity from the start.

I try Iraqi ice cream, freshly squeezed juices, and local snacks served on the street. I visit Al Mutanabbi Street, the most famous book street in Iraq, filled with bookstores, poetry, calligraphy, and art. I stop at Shabandar Cafe, the oldest cafe in Baghdad, where writers, poets, and presidents have sat for decades.

Later I visit Haji Zbala, the oldest juice shop in Baghdad, and try more Iraqi street food including falafel and samoon bread. Everywhere I go people insist on paying for me, feeding me, and sharing stories about their city.

As night falls, I show what Baghdad looks and feels like after dark. The streets light up, families gather, food stalls open, and the atmosphere becomes peaceful and full of life.

If you have only seen Baghdad in the news, this video will change your view. This is the real Baghdad. Historic, full of culture, alive with energy, and home to some of the kindest people I have ever met.
