I recently watched China’s military parade online and was captivated by its precise marching, immense scale, and cutting-edge weaponry. It left a deep and lasting impression on me.

Eager to witness a military march in person, I was thrilled to find out that the Royal Regiment of Scotland would be parading on 20 September in the small town of Lochgilphead—about 130 miles from Edinburgh. It took me eight hours round-trip to get there, but every minute was worth it. Seeing and filming this magnificent event up close was an unforgettable experience.

The local council had granted the regiment the Freedom of Argyll and Bute in recognition of their service to both the nation and the community. On parade were not only the spirited soldiers of 2 SCOTS, but also the Pipes and Drums led by Drum Major Sergeant Crawford, together with the regiment’s beloved mascot, Corporal Cruachan IV—a super cute Shetland pony. The 2 SCOTS Pipes and Drums had just performed a few days ago at Windsor Castle in London for the welcome ceremony of US President Trump, hosted by King Charles. Then they rushed to this small town in western Scotland to take part in the Freedom of Argyll and Bute march - it was absolutely amazing.

Compared with China’s parade, Scottish soldiers display a very different kind of strength—elegance, tradition, and pride. From the stirring sound of the pipes to the graceful march, Scotland proves that elegance can be just as powerful as raw strength.
